The world's longest wooden pedestrian bridge at 897.4 meters long, recognized by Guinness World Records. Originally built for people who cultivated tea fields on the Makino Hara Plateau, it remains a active bridge used by many people today. From the bridge, you can overlook the magnificent flow of the Oi River and the green tea fields around it, offering a sense of openness perfect for family walks. This is a spot where you can realize the vastness of the Oi River where fireworks will light up tonight.

2026年8月1日(土)開催、第39回を迎える大井川大花火大会です。大井川の広い河川敷を舞台に、約10,000発の花火が2時間にわたって夜空を彩ります。次々と打ち上がる花火が広い夜空いっぱいに広がる様子は、開けた河川敷ならではの大迫力です。「越すに越されぬ大井川」の歴史を持つこの川のほとりで見上げる花火は、島田の夏の風物詩として長く親しまれています。
Tips
荒天時は中止・順延となる場合があるため、当日の開催可否は主催の発表で確認を。終了後は周辺道路が大変混雑するため、時間差での帰宅がおすすめです。足元が暗いので懐中電灯があると安心です。
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from the river crossing ruins. A cooperation fee (about 100 yen) is required for crossing the bridge. There is little shade from the sun, so a hat is recommended in summer.
Best time to visit
Takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. The time approaching evening brings pleasant river breezes.
