A historic shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, said to be one of the earliest Tenmangu shrines established in Japan. At the top of the grand stone steps stands the impressive vermillion-lacquered main hall, and from within the shrine grounds you can gaze out over the town of Hofu. Widely revered as the god of learning, this spot draws families throughout the year. Tonight this Tenmangu Shrine area becomes the fireworks venue, so experiencing the atmosphere during the day helps connect the day's story together.

荒天時は中止や延期の可能性があるため、当日は主催者の発表を確認しましょう。終了後は防府駅周辺が大変混雑するため、時間差での帰宅がおすすめです。人混みでのはぐれ防止に、待ち合わせ場所を決めておくと安心です。
Tips
About 15 minutes on foot from JR Hofu Station (JR防府駅), with parking available. The grand stone steps have many steps, so if bringing small children, hold their hands and ascend slowly. In summer, the sun is strong, so remember to stay hydrated.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. Morning to early afternoon tends to have fewer visitors.
