A world-renowned facility that brought Oriental white storks back to the wild through artificial breeding, after they once vanished from Japanese skies as a Special Natural Monument. The open cage allows close observation of storks, while the museum showcases the history of Toyooka's protection efforts. If fortunate, you might witness them gracefully soaring across the surrounding rice paddies. One of the highlights of the course where you can experience Toyooka's coexistence with nature.

豊岡市の伊福部神社境内で営まれる「愛宕の火祭り」です。2026年は8月23日(日)17時から20時30分までの開催で、地域に古くから受け継がれてきた火にまつわる伝統行事が静かに、そして力強く営まれます。昼間に訪れたコウノトリの郷公園の自然や出石城下町の歴史ある町並みとはまた違う、火と灯りに彩られた夜の神社ならではの荘厳な空気を味わえます。豊岡の多彩な魅力を1日でめぐる旅の締めくくりにふさわしいひとときです。

夜間は境内周辺が暗くなるため、懐中電灯やスマートフォンの照明があると安心です。火を扱う行事のため、小さな子ども連れは目を離さないようにしましょう。荒天時の開催可否は地域の情報で確認を。
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from JR Toyooka Station. The grounds are spacious, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. In summer, sun protection with a hat or parasol and plenty of water are essential.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. Morning is ideal for observing stork activity.
