About this spot
An archaeological park that preserves a museum showcasing Kii Province's ancient history alongside a cluster of ancient burial mounds. The park is dotted with burial mounds of various sizes, and in some places you can actually enter and view the inside of the mounds. Walking through the green hills, you naturally encounter Wakayama's ancient history, making it a perfect destination for family learning.

木の神様・五十猛命を祀る紀伊国一之宮、伊太祁曽神社で営まれる「茅輪祭」です。2026年は7月30日から31日までの2日間、初日は18時から茅の輪くぐりが始まり、31日には11時から本殿祭も執り行われます。境内に設けられた大きな茅の輪をくぐることで、夏の間にたまった穢れを祓い、健やかな残りの夏を願う伝統行事です。和歌山電鐡貴志川線の伊太祈曽駅からもほど近く、静かな杜に包まれた境内で家族の1日を締めくくれます。
Tips
茅の輪のくぐり方には作法があるため、境内の案内表示に従いましょう。夜の参拝は足元が暗い箇所もあるので、歩きやすい靴で訪れると安心です。夜は気温が下がることがあるので薄手の羽織ものがあると快適です。
Tips
The park terrain is uneven, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Summer has limited tree shade in some areas, so bring sun protection. The museum may close on Mondays, so confirm in advance for peace of mind.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. Early afternoon is relatively uncrowded.
