About this spot

A renowned Soto Zen temple established by Maeda Toshinari, the third feudal lord of Kaga Domain, to honor the memory of Maeda Toshinaga, the second feudal lord. The architectural layout, with the gate, main hall, and dharma hall in perfect linear alignment, is highly regarded as a typical example of Zen temple design, with all three structures designated as national treasures. The spacious front courtyard, surrounded by corridors, is filled with tranquility, and even in mid-summer, the tree shade provides a sense of coolness. As a temple intimately connected with the Maeda family, who nurtured Takaoka's casting culture, it's an ideal place to understand the town's history.

2026年で開催される高岡七夕まつりは8月1日から8日までの8日間、高岡駅前通りから末広町商店街にかけての一帯を舞台に行われる、北陸三大七夕まつりのひとつです。会場となる商店街には高さ数メートルにおよぶ大笹が連なり、色とりどりのくす玉や吹き流しが軒先から軒先へと揺れる光景は、鋳物の町・高岡ならではの夏の風物詩。日が暮れて提灯に灯がともると、浴衣姿の親子連れや若者たちでアーケードが埋め尽くされ、まち全体が七夕一色に染まります。今回のコースで訪ねる初日(8月1日)は、まつりが幕を開けたばかりの高揚感を味わえる日でもあります。

Tips

会場周辺は夕方以降、車両の通行規制がかかることがあるため、公共交通機関の利用が安心です。商店街は人通りが多くベビーカーでの移動はやや大変なので、抱っこ紐があると身動きが取りやすくなります。飲み物はこまめに補給しましょう。

Tips

About 15 minutes' walk from Takaoka Station, or accessible by Kaetsu-no bus. An admission fee is required, and you can also pay respects at the memorial tablet of Maeda Toshinaga inside the main hall. Summer visitors enjoy the relatively cool interior as a break from outdoor exploration.
