At this World Heritage site that preserves the prosperity of the Ōshū Fujiwara clan, the gleaming Konjikudō Hall is a National Treasure built with the finest craft arts and design of the Heian era. As you walk along the cedar-lined 'Tsukimizaka' pilgrimage path and visit the treasure hall Sankōkuzo and the main hall, you can sense the grand scale of the Buddhist culture that flourished in Hiraizumi. The path offers plenty of shade even in summer, making for a cool and pleasant stroll.

一関夏まつりは、一関市の中心市街地・大町周辺を舞台に毎年8月に開催される、市民総出の夏の一大イベントです。2026年は8月7日から9日までの3日間開催され、初日の夕方から山車や踊りの行列が街を練り歩き、太鼓や笛のお囃子が商店街に響き渡ります。世界遺産・平泉を擁する歴史ある街が、この期間だけは活気ある祭りの熱気に包まれ、地元の人々と旅行者が一体となって夏の夜を楽しみます。子ども向けの催しも多く、家族連れでも安心して参加できる雰囲気です。

Tips

会場周辺は夜になると交通規制がかかることがあるため、公共交通機関か駅からの徒歩移動がおすすめです。荒天時の開催可否は主催者の発表を確認してください。

Tips

About 20 minutes by car from Ichinoseki city center. The Tsukimizaka path is a gentle uphill walk, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Admission fees apply for both Konjikudō Hall and Sankōkuzo.
