This park preserves the history of Utsunomiya Castle, which once stood at the heart of Utsunomiya. Restored earth walls, turrets, and moats recreate the castle as it appeared in the Edo period, allowing visitors to experience the original castle's scale. Known for nighttime illumination, the park also features grassy lawns and exhibits by day, perfect for families to leisurely enjoy historical exploration. As the starting point of this course, it's an ideal place to learn about Utsunomiya's development.

2026年のふるさと宮まつりは8月1日、2日の2日間、宇都宮市の大通り(大町交差点〜上河原交差点)、オリオンスクエア、バンバ通り、オリオン通りを会場に開催されます。オリオン通りなど大通り沿いには屋台が並び、県庁所在地・宇都宮の中心市街地全体が祭り一色に染まる、県内でも屈指の規模を誇る夏祭りです。初日となる1日は、日中に城址公園や大谷資料館など宇都宮の見どころを巡ってきた一日の締めくくりとして、屋台をひやかしながら夜の街を歩く楽しみを味わえます。

Tips

会場周辺は祭り期間中、大規模な交通規制が行われます。公共交通機関の利用がおすすめです。屋台での食べ歩きには小銭とウェットティッシュがあると便利です。
