A daimyo garden built by the Hosokawa clan, featuring a strolling garden with a pond fed by Aso's underground spring water as its center, arranged with artificial mountains, pines, and bridges said to be modeled after landscapes along the Tokaido's 53 stations. The pond water is remarkably clear, offering beautiful scenery throughout all seasons. Spending quiet time surrounded by greenery and water while located in the city center makes this one of Kumamoto's representative scenic spots.

熊本市中心市街地を舞台に、毎年夏に開催される熊本最大級の祭りです。2026年は7月31日から8月2日までの3日間開催予定。熊本弁の民謡「おてもやん」に乗せて、企業や地域団体、学生などさまざまなチームが趣向を凝らした衣装で踊り歩く「おてもやん総踊り」が最大の見どころで、花畑公園周辺の街路が踊り手と観客の熱気に包まれます。熊本城を望む城下町で繰り広げられる、市民総参加型の夏の一大イベントです。
Tips
会場周辺は大規模な交通規制がかかり、大変混雑します。公共交通機関の利用が安心です。日中の暑さが残る時間帯からの観覧になるため、水分補給と休憩をこまめに。ベビーカーでの最前列は難しいため、沿道後方での観覧がおすすめです。
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from Kumamoto Castle. Some areas within the garden have unpaved paths, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. You can also enjoy matcha tea at the historic Kokon-denjo pavilion within the garden.
Best time to visit
Takes approximately 50 minutes. The soft afternoon light beautifully reflects on the pond's water surface.
