Originating from a castle built by Hosokawa Tadaoki, Kokura Castle is an iconic symbol of Kitakyushu. The current tower was reconstructed in 1959 and now houses a museum with historical exhibits and interactive displays inside. The contrast between white walls and black tiles reflected in the moat is beautiful, and walking through the adjacent Kokura Castle Garden and Katsuyama Park gives you a sense of the former castle town's expanse. From the top floor of the tower, you can overlook the Shii River and Kitakyushu's cityscape.

Tips

公園の駐車場は台数に限りがあるため、周辺のコインパーキングも候補に入れておくと安心です。夜は虫が出やすいので虫よけを。ベビーカーは公園内の砂地や芝生で動かしにくい箇所もあるため、抱っこひもがあると安心です。

Tips

About 15 minutes walk from Nishi Tetsudo Bus or Kitakyushu Monorail Heiwa-dori Station. The tower has many stairs; hold handrails carefully when with small children. The adjacent castle garden sometimes offers kimono experience.
