Overview of the castle town from the main tower of Aizu-Tsurugajo, the symbol of Aizu
About this spot
A renowned castle known as the symbol of Aizu for holding out to the end during the Boshin War. The current main tower is a reconstruction, and the interior serves as a history museum displaying materials related to the history of the Aizu Clan and the Boshin War. Its distinctive red tile roof is rare throughout Japan, and from the top floor of the tower you can overlook the entire Aizu basin and castle town. It is also one of the venues for the Aizu Festival, and tracing its historical background before the festival makes the main event even more meaningful.
