View the Jomon-era Stone Circle, a World Heritage candidate
About this spot
A large-scale circular stone alignment constructed in the Late Jomon period, recognized as a component asset of the "Jomon Sites of Hokkaido and Northern Honshu" and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Two stone circles called Nonakadō and Manza remain in an open field, allowing visitors to walk through and view the ceremonial grounds built by ancient people using stone. Interpretive signs are also installed, offering a unique Kakudate experience where you can reflect on the lifestyle and beliefs of distant Jomon times.

大湯温泉の玄関口である道の駅おおゆ(湯の駅おおゆ)を会場に、2026年8月15日(土)に開かれる地域の太鼓まつりです。大きな太鼓が力強く打ち鳴らされ、その音が湯けむり漂う温泉街に響き渡ります。道の駅には地元の農産物直売所や飲食コーナーもあり、日中の史跡めぐりや町歩きで疲れた体を休めながら本番を待つのにも便利です。縄文時代の遺跡から続く鹿角の歴史と、温泉地ならではの情緒を味わった1日の締めくくりに、地域に根づいた太鼓の響きを堪能しましょう。
Tips
道の駅の駐車場は夕方以降混み合うことがあります。夜は山あいのため冷え込むこともあるので羽織ものがあると安心です。太鼓の演奏は屋外で行われるため、雨天時は内容が変更になることがあります。
Tips
As this is an outdoor archaeological site, don't forget hat and drinks in summer. Visiting the adjacent Ōyu Stone Circle Museum together will deepen your understanding of the site.

About 50 minutes. Early afternoon sun is intense; choose shaded areas for viewing.
