Lake Suo Nature Plaza (菅生沼ふれあい広場)

Flow of the course

About this spot

An area along the shore of Lake Suo (菅生沼), continuous with the nature museum's outdoor facilities. Wetlands spread across the valley terrain known as 'yatsu', where you can experience up close the flowers and grasses that change with the seasons, along with the insects and birds that gather there. It's known as a spot where swans arrive in winter, but in summer it becomes a solid green meadow, where dragonflies, grasshoppers, and other familiar creatures take center stage. Walking here lets you make connections like 'that creature from the exhibit earlier is here too,' which is what makes this facility interesting. The afternoon's Water Plaza is very close by, so there's almost no burden of travel.

Tips

The outdoor facilities are included in the museum admission, so there's no additional charge. Summer sunlight is strong and insects are plentiful, so bring a hat and insect repellent, and keep your visit to about 40 minutes to avoid overdoing it. Stay off the grass and walk only on the designated paths. Some areas near the water can be muddy underfoot, so wear shoes that are easy to walk in. Swans are only visible in winter, so in summer it's best to walk with the green wetlands and the insects and birds in mind.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes. Keep your visit short during hours of strong sunlight
