2026 Monbetsu Port Festival: Okhotsk Fireworks Festival - A Full One-Day Course
This is a course for enjoying a full day in Monbetsu, the town of drift ice, centered on the Monbetsu Port Festival Okhotsk Fireworks Festival (もんべつ港まつり オホーツク花火の祭典), held from 8pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Monbetsu Port's No. 1 Pier (紋別港第1ふ頭). At midday, get up close with the adorable seals at the Okhotsk Tokkari Center (オホーツクとっかりセンター), then learn about the mysteries of drift ice at the Ryuhyo Science Center GIZA (流氷科学センターGIZA). At Moreranai Hill Park (モルエラニの丘公園), enjoy the hilltop view overlooking the port and the Sea of Okhotsk. In the evening, pick up dinner at the roadside station Michi-no-Eki Okhotsk Monbetsu (道の駅オホーツク紋別), then secure a spot near the port and wait for the show to begin. From 8pm, fireworks launch one after another into the night sky over Monbetsu Port, which faces the Sea of Okhotsk. Watching the fireworks in this setting unique to a sea-and-port town offers a wonderfully open, powerful experience. This is a plan unique to summer in Monbetsu, where you can fully enjoy encounters with nature, learning, and fireworks all at once.
