2026 Asahiyama Memorial Park Water Plaza Full-Day Course
Asahiyama Memorial Park (旭山記念公園), set on high ground looking down over the city of Sapporo, is an ambitious park where you can enjoy both a panoramic view and water play at once. At its heart is the Asahiyama Memorial Park Water Plaza, where you can play at a cascade of falling water and in the shallows below it. It is usually open from Saturday, April 25 to Saturday, October 31, from 10:00 to 20:00 (the City of Sapporo lists it as late April to around the end of October). Use is free, and because an observation plaza, restrooms and a resthouse are all on hand, it is easy to spend a whole day here. The long season, running from spring through autumn, means you can plan a visit on weekends outside the summer holidays too, which is a strength unique to this park. In the morning, pay a visit to Sapporo Fushimi Inari Shrine (札幌伏見稲荷神社) with its rows of vermilion torii gates, then take the Sapporo Mount Moiwa Ropeway to the summit for a full view of the city. Have lunch at the resthouse inside the park, then move straight on to the Water Plaza in the afternoon. It stays open until 8:00 p.m., so in the season of long days you can watch the city lights at dusk before heading home. With a pleasant breeze on the heights, it is a day of water play that feels distinctly like Sapporo.
