2026 Matsugaike Park Stream / Fountain: A Full Day Out

This is a course for spending a full day playing close by, starring the Matsugaike Park (Shiro-tsutsuji Park) Stream / Fountain in Matsugaike Park (Shiro-tsutsuji Park), Nagai City. Within the roughly 6-hectare grounds runs a shallow stream where children can play in the water, and a pond with a fountain plus a waterfall add a cool touch. Playground equipment and a lawn plaza are also on hand, so the strength of this park is that you can spend the whole day moving between the water and the play equipment. Use is free. The opening period has not been announced; in most years the water runs during the summer holidays. Please check the operating status before you set out. In the morning, take in the works of the sculptor Nagai produced at the Naganuma Kozo Sculpture Museum, then stroll at leisure through Nagai Ayame Park, a famous spot for Japanese irises. At lunchtime, savor local ingredients and the atmosphere of the farmers market at Michi-no-Eki Kawa-no-Minato Nagai roadside station, themed on the river-boat trade of the Mogami River (最上川). In the afternoon, head back to Matsugaike Park and play in the water beside the stream and fountain until evening. The Flower Nagai Line runs through the town, so a relaxed trip by train is another option.
