Hike the Abandoned Railway Trail Where Historic Locomotives Once Ran
About this spot
A scenic 6-km walking trail along the abandoned Abt rack railway route of Usui Pass. Modern heritage sites appear in succession—brick tunnels and the former Maruyama substation—and the gently graded former railway line is easy for families with children to navigate. As you walk through the forest, the Megane Bridge awaits near the endpoint.
Tips
The one-way walk from Yokogawa to Megane Bridge takes about 80 minutes. Depending on children's stamina, you can shorten the route using the Trocko Train Sherpa-kun to the Touge no Yu hot spring. Plan accordingly.
Best time to visit
About 90 minutes on foot to Megane Bridge. Start in the early afternoon for peace of mind.
