Tour the archive warehouse at the brewery of the acclaimed sake 'Mansaku no Hana' and pick up a bottle as a souvenir

About this spot

An established brewery in Masuda with origins said to date back to the Genroku era. The company name 'Hinomaru' is said to derive from the crest of the Satake clan, the former lords of Akita, which featured a 'five-ribbed fan with a Hinomaru.' The brewery's signature product, 'Mansaku no Hana' sake, has fans throughout the nation. The archive warehouse on the grounds is a registered tangible cultural property, and its polished black plaster walls emit a subdued radiance that is considered among the finest of Masuda's hidden warehouses. Within the refined atmosphere unique to a sake brewery, take time to appreciate the architectural design of the warehouse in detail. You can also browse seasonal sake selections at the shop—choosing a bottle to take home as a travel memento will bring the charm of the warehouse town back with you. This is a fitting destination marking the latter half of your town walk, where the aesthetic sensibility of Masuda's merchant houses and the sake culture of snowy regions converge.

Tips

Just a short walk from the former Ishida Rikichiro Residence. Since the brewery's ability to accommodate warehouse tours may vary depending on brewing schedules, it's wise to confirm in advance. If you are driving, refrain from tasting to ensure you can drive safely; enjoy your souvenir bottle later at home. Be careful when carrying the bottle, as glass is fragile.

Best time to visit

Plan for about 35 minutes. Visiting in the early afternoon allows for a more relaxed tour of both the shop and warehouse.
