A Grand Waterfall and Ravine Beauty Viewed from the Rainbow Suspension Bridge
About this spot
A park centered on Kamikawa Grand Falls in Kinko Town, with a height of 25 meters and width of 30 meters—showcasing a scale unmatched elsewhere on the Osumi Peninsula. High overhead, a pedestrian-only "rainbow suspension bridge" (虹のつり橋) spans the ravine, from which you enjoy an exhilarating panoramic view of the grand falls and deep green gorge at a glance. The park's charm lies in experiencing the falls from two perspectives: looking up from the gorge-side walking path and looking down from the sky-suspended bridge. Small waterfalls dot the surroundings, and a ravine walk with the spray on your face makes a perfect finale for the day. As twilight bathes the gorge in slanting light, the lingering beauty deepens quietly, sealing your spectacular journey.
Tips
The bridge requires climbing a slope and stairs from the parking area, so wear comfortable hiking shoes. Those uncomfortable with heights can enjoy the gorge fully from the front-facing walking path without crossing the bridge. The valley grows dark early in the evening, so walk while there's still daylight.
Best time to visit
Total time: about 40 minutes. Late afternoon when slanting light illuminates the ravine is especially dramatic
