The Hita Kawabiraki Kanko Matsuri Grand Fireworks Festival is a representative festival fireworks display of Hita city, held annually in May around the Mikuma River. With approximately 10,000 fireworks launched over two days, the "mirrored fireworks" reflected on the water's surface create a spectacular view unique to the Mikuma River. The large chrysanthemum-shaped fireworks illuminating the entire Hita city area create a powerful reverberating sound in the basin-shaped terrain surrounded by mountains. In the early summer night breeze of May, watching fireworks above the babbling stream offers an experience filled with refreshing clarity and emotion, quite different from fireworks festivals in large summer cities. The moment the night sky brightly lights up at the finale of the 1 hour 20 minute display marks the climax of your full day.

Check the official announcement by Hita City and the festival organizers for confirmation regarding cancellation due to bad weather. After the festival ends, roads from the Mikuma River area to the city center become congested. It's recommended to linger along the riverbank and enjoy the afterglow before heading back, staggering your departure. Most areas are within walking distance to JR Hita Station, but check train and bus times in advance for your return journey.
