Mount Fuji's snowmelt seeps into the ground and emerges after many years to form eight pools known as "Oshino Hakkai," registered as a National Natural Monument and a component asset of the World Heritage Site. The pool water is remarkably transparent, with the blue-green surface visible all the way to the bottom glistening in the summer sunlight—a sight well worth seeing. Thatched-roof buildings and water wheels line the surroundings, creating a peaceful mountain-base landscape. The largest pool, "Waki-ike," has a diameter of about 10 meters, allowing direct observation of the water spouting up. Located just about 15 minutes by car from Yamanaka Lake, it's a perfect spot for exploring in the afternoon through early evening.

山中湖の開湖を記念して毎年8月1日に開催される「報湖祭」は、山中湖の夏を代表する伝統行事です。湖上から打ち上げられる花火は、富士山を正面に望む湖畔から見ると、大輪が富士の稜線と重なるように夜空に開く唯一無二の光景を楽しめます。静かな湖面に映る逆さ花火の美しさも、湖上花火ならではの見どころです。標高約980mの山あいで鳴り響く打ち上げ音は体に響く迫力があり、周囲の山々に反響するこもった音が独特の臨場感を生み出します。涼しい夜風の中で、富士山と湖と花火が一体となる夏の夜のひとときをご家族でお楽しみください。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は山中湖村の公式発表で必ず確認してください。終了後は会場周辺の道路と駐車場の出口が大変混雑します。フィナーレの余韻を湖畔でゆっくり楽しんでから、時間差で帰路につくのがおすすめです。富士急行バスや自家用車の帰り時刻は事前に調べておきましょう。足元は暗いため、帰路は必ずライトを使って安全に。

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from Yamanaka Lake, or by Fujikyu Yamanashi Bus to Oshino Hakkai bus stop. Some pools are free to view, while entry fees apply to certain areas. Souvenir shops and light snack stands line the area, convenient for a quick bite. Be careful that small children do not venture too close to the pools, especially where crowds gather.
