About this spot

Lake Yamanaka, the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes, is about a 10-minute drive from Oshino Hakkai. From the lake's north shore, Mt. Fuji looms directly ahead, and on clear summer days it is a prime spot to see the mountain's reflection, the 'upside-down Fuji', on the water's surface. At an elevation of over 1,000m, the lakeshore stays cool even in midsummer, making it ideal for a relaxed family stroll along the promenade. Parks and open plazas are maintained along the shore, perfect for kids to play on the grass or for a rest while gazing at the lake. It is a great way to refresh in the afternoon before the fireworks.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Oshino Hakkai, or accessible by Fujikyu bus. The northern shore area offers an especially good view of Mt. Fuji, and around Yamanakako Kirara Community Plaza there is a grassy plaza where you can relax. In the strong summer sun, do not forget a hat and sunscreen. In the evening, plan your schedule backward from the time you need to return to the venue in Oshino Village.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes. In the afternoon there tend to be fewer clouds, and Mt. Fuji is often clearly visible
