A specialist facility communicating the history and culture of "Sendai Otsunabiki," a nationally designated important intangible cultural heritage of which Satsumasendai is proud. The actual exhibit of a massive rope approximately 365m long and weighing about 7 tons (Japan's largest scale) and powerful footage of the Otsunabiki create a strong impact for first-time visitors. The Sendai Otsunabiki, believed to have continued since the Sengoku period, is a traditional event where you can feel the passion for festivals in Satsumasendai. Like tonight's fireworks festival, understanding the festival culture that takes place along the Sendai River deepens affection for this town.

2026年8月16日(日)19時40分から20時30分にかけて開催される川内川花火大会は、薩摩川内市・川内川河川敷一帯を会場に約10,000発を打ち上げる、鹿児島県内でも屈指の規模を誇る夏の一大花火大会です。川幅を生かしたワイドスターマインや大玉の尺玉が夜空に大輪を描き、川面に映る逆さ花火との二重の光景は河川敷ならではの絶景です。打上音が川沿いの空気を震わせ、体に響く迫力は実際に現地で体験してはじめてわかる感動があります。フィナーレに向けてテンポが上がる連発の瞬間は、家族みんなで声を上げたくなるクライマックスです。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表で必ず確認してください。終了後の20時30分以降は会場周辺の道路と薩摩川内駅が大変混雑します。急いで移動するよりも、フィナーレ後も河川敷でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから、人波が落ち着いた時間に駅へ向かう時間差帰宅がおすすめです。帰路の足元が暗い場所もあるため、小さなライトを携帯しておくと安心です。

Tips

About 10 minutes walk from Satsumasendai Station. Admission is approximately 200 yen for adults (confirm in advance). The facility has complete air conditioning and serves as a rest area during hot summer hours. It's an ideal compact viewing spot for afternoon before the fireworks festival, and an hour is sufficient for viewing time.
