Sakata's Symbol: A Zelkova Tree-Lined Avenue and White-Walled Rice Storehouses

Twelve rice storehouses built in 1893 (Meiji 26) stand in a row, forming a landscape representative of Sakata. Over 150-year-old zelkova trees line the white-walled, black-tiled earthen storehouses, providing pleasant shade even in summer. Parts of the warehouses are open to the public as an exhibition hall and shop, where you can learn about the history of Shonai rice and the development of Sakata. The view from the footpath over the moat is photogenic and recommended for family photos.

酒田市宮海地区に広がる海水浴場で、2026年は7月18日(土)から8月16日(日)まで、9時から17時の日程で開設されます。日本海に面した遠浅の白砂ビーチで、波が比較的穏やかなことから小さな子ども連れの家族にも人気です。公衆トイレ、更衣室、シャワー、救護所が整い、監視員も配置されるので安心して海水浴を楽しめます。砂浜には海の家も並び、休憩や食事にも困りません。庄内の夏らしい開放的な海辺で、波遊びや砂遊びをしながら夕方まで思いきり過ごしましょう。

Tips

遊泳は無料ですが、駐車場は清掃協力金として普通車0〜1,000円ほど(時期により変動)がかかります。夏の砂浜は熱くなるのでビーチサンダルが必須です。遊泳時間は17時までなので、着替えや後片付けの時間を見込んで16時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめです。

Tips

It's conveniently located on the way to Miyaumi Beach. The zelkova tree-lined avenue has plenty of shade, making it relatively cool to walk even during hot summer days. Parking is free, though separate admission fees apply for the museum visit.
