Stroll Through a Celebrated Scenic Garden Associated with the Shimazu Clan
About this spot
Built in the Edo period as a summer villa of the Shimazu clan (daimyo of Satsuma), this is one of Japan's most renowned scenic gardens, featuring Kinko Bay and Sakurajima as borrowed scenery. Scattered throughout the expansive grounds are structures like a palace and a cat shrine, allowing visitors to experience Kagoshima's history as they walk. Most notably, the view of Sakurajima across the garden is breathtaking, and since the beach you'll visit later is on the same Kinko Bay, this is a fitting starting point for your journey. Though the grounds are uneven, many paths are paved, making it easy to walk with a stroller.

鹿児島市磯地区にある海水浴場で、2026年は7月10日(金)から8月31日(月)まで、10時から18時の時間で開設されます。最大の魅力は、目の前に桜島を望む錦江湾で泳げること。噴煙をたなびかせる桜島を眺めながらの海水浴は、鹿児島ならではの体験です。ビーチハウスは通年24時間利用でき、シャワーや更衣室、ロッカーも整っているため、小さな子ども連れでも荷物や着替えの心配が少なくて済みます。仙巌園からもほど近く、歴史散策と海水浴を1日でまとめて楽しめるのも魅力です。
Tips
シャワーは冷温水ともに100円/5分、更衣室とロッカーは無料で利用できます。営業終了は18時なので、着替えの時間を見込んで17時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめです。夏の砂浜は熱いのでビーチサンダルが必携です。
Tips
The location is within walking distance from Iso Beach. In summer, the sun is intense—don't forget a hat and water. Viewing the palace interior requires extra time, so focusing on garden strolls makes it easier to cover the grounds within your timeframe.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. The area is relatively quiet and easy to walk in the 10 AM hour right after opening.
