A shrine with ties to the Kishu Tokugawa clan, also known as "Wakayama's Nikko." Climbing the steep stone steps known as Shojuibashi leads to a shrine building adorned with colorful carved details, stunning in its ornate beauty. Midway up the steps, there are sweeping views over Waka Bay, adding to the sense of accomplishment at reaching the top. It's a worthwhile detour to experience the sacred atmosphere of a shrine long cherished by locals before the main festival.

和歌山城とその周辺を舞台に繰り広げられる、和歌山の夏を代表する踊りの祭典です。2026年は8月1日の17時30分から21時20分まで本大会が行われ、前夜祭は7月31日18時30分から20時30分に開催されます。「ぶんだら、ぶんだら」の軽快な掛け声にのせて、揃いの衣装をまとった連が次々と目の前を通り過ぎ、城下町全体が踊りの熱気に包まれます。地元の人も観光客も一体となって楽しめる、和歌山らしい開放的な祭りです。城の石垣を背景に踊りを眺められるのも、この会場ならではの魅力です。
Tips
当日は会場周辺で交通規制がかかることがあるため、公共交通機関の利用が安心です。よい場所で観たい場合は開始前から沿道に位置を確保しておきましょう。夜は気温が下がることもあるため、薄手の羽織ものがあると安心です。
Tips
The stone steps are quite steep. Small children and seniors should hold the railings and take their time. In summer, you'll sweat on the way up, so bring drinks and a sweat towel for comfort.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 40 minutes. Late afternoon when the sun softens is easier and recommended.
