「日本一おまつり好きな町」を掲げる今治市を代表する夏祭りで、今治港・広小路・銀座商店街・本町商店街一帯を舞台に開催されます。今治に古くから伝わる郷土芸能「継ぎ獅子」は、肩車で人の塔を組んでその上で獅子頭を操るという全国でも珍しい勇壮な芸で、祭りいちばんの見どころのひとつです。あわせて開催される「おんまくおどり」には市民や団体が参加し、揃いの法被姿で港町の通りを埋め尽くします。造船の町らしい活気とユーモアが詰まった、今治の夏を象徴する祭りです。
Tips
会場周辺は当日大規模な交通規制がかかります。継ぎ獅子は見どころが集中する時間帯があるため、公式のタイムスケジュールを事前に確認しておくと安心です。人混みでのベビーカー移動は難しいため、抱っこ紐があると便利です。
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from Imabari Castle. Admission required, but the garden can be enjoyed separately. In summer, the garden receives strong sunlight, so remember to drink plenty of water.
Best time to visit
Takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. The air-conditioned interior is perfect for cooling off during hot afternoon hours.
