Giant Kiriko Floats Parading Through the Night—A Signature of Noto's Summer

Held around various shrines in central Wajima—Kaiji-cho, Kawai-cho, Oushi-cho, and Wajima-saki-cho—this is one of Noto's most representative summer festivals. In 2026, the festival runs from August 22-25, with the course featuring the first day. As night falls, massive paper and wood Kiriko lantern floats, several meters tall, emerge from various neighborhoods and parade through the streets with flickering lantern light and spirited chants. Wajima Taisai is particularly large-scale among Noto's Kiriko festivals, creating an impressive spectacle as the port town's night is engulfed in festival energy—a sight unique to this season.
