An ancient shrine built at the birthplace of the Tokugawa clan, with ties to Nikko Toshogu

About this spot

Built in Serate, a location associated with the Nitta clan considered ancestors of the Tokugawa family, this Toshogu shrine is said to have had portions of Nikko Toshogu's original structures relocated here during the reconstruction overseen by Tokugawa Iemitsu. The richly painted and carved shrine buildings evoke the grandeur of Nikko's Toshogu, and simply walking through the quiet grounds allows you to feel the deep connection between the Tokugawa family and this land. The grounds also include a treasure hall, making it a worthwhile spot for history enthusiasts.

Season & hours

Name:

Date & time: 8/14 (Fri)–8/15 (Sat) Time TBA

Venue:

Tips
