Aikoku Station (愛国駅)

About this spot

A station on the Japanese National Railways Hiroo Line that once linked Obihiro and Hiroo. Even after the line closed, the station building remains as a transport memorial hall. The ticket reading 「From the Land of Love to Happiness」 that became a nationwide talking point covered the section between this station and Kofuku Station (幸福駅), and traces of it can still be seen in the exhibits. Standing in a station with no tracks feels a little wistful to adults and mysterious to children. Rolling stock is preserved outdoors, so children who love trains will gaze at it and lose track of time. It is a place where you can talk about the fact that Tokachi was once tied together by rail, with the real thing in front of you.

大空公園水遊び場は、帯広市の大空公園にある無料の水遊び施設です。2026年の開設期間はまだ発表されておらず、例年は夏休みの時期に合わせて開かれます。水深が浅いので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って遊べるのが安心なところ。入場料も入れ替えもないので、水に入って走り、疲れたら岸で休むという自由なリズムで過ごせます。住宅地の中の公園なので、近所の子どもたちが自然に集まり、その日はじめて会った子と一緒に遊びだすこともよくあります。午前に鉄道の跡や庭園を回ったあと、最後を思いきり体を動かして締めくくれる組み立てです。

2026年の開設期間は未発表です。出かける前に帯広市の案内で、当日水が出ているかを必ず確認してください。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになることもあります。更衣室は用意されていない前提で、水着は下に着ていくと着替えが楽になります。日陰は限られるのでレジャーシートと帽子を持参しましょう。北海道の夏は日が傾くと急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織れる薄手の一枚を必ず用意してください。

Tips

Viewing is free, but check the opening hours of the memorial hall in advance. There is little to block the sun at the outdoor exhibits, so bring a hat and drinks. Some areas of the preserved rolling stock are off limits, so follow the signs. About an hour is enough here, so plan to keep energy in reserve for the afternoon.
