About this spot

Spreading across the west side of central Obihiro, this is a vast forest created by citizens planting trees. Its origin, land that was once flat where trees were planted one by one and raised over decades, gives it a character no other park has. Promenades run through it, so simply walking inside you can tell that the air stays cool even in midsummer. There are not many places where you can tell a child that someone planted every one of these trees. Sports facilities are dotted around as well, showing a scene typical of Tokachi in which a forest is part of residents' daily lives.

Tips

It is very large, so do not try to walk all of it; going out and back along the promenade near the entrance is enough. There are insects in the forest, so insect repellent makes it more comfortable. The paths are dirt, so they can get muddy after rain. Prepare drinks before you leave, and remember to stay hydrated even in the shade.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Walking during the cool morning hours is the most comfortable.
