About this spot

This museum was designed by Japanese-style painter Kawabata Ryushi himself to display his own works, and was later donated to Ota City. Ryushi championed what he called exhibition-hall art and painted numerous large-format works whose impact could be felt even from a distance in an exhibition hall. Stepping into the galleries, you're first struck by the sheer scale. Even without understanding the fine techniques, the scale of the canvases and the intensity of the colors reach children directly. Across the road is Ryushi's former residence and garden, which can sometimes be viewed together. It's a short walk to Kirisato Nature Park.

Tips

Check the opening days and hours, closed days, and admission fee on the Ota City official website in advance. Public viewing of the former residence and garden may be limited to certain days and times, so it's safest to check that as well. Before entering, agree with children on the rules for the galleries - no running, and don't get too close to the works. The interior is air-conditioned, so having something to layer on is comfortable.
