Mt. Hachimantai: Aspite Line Scenic Drive
A drive course packed with breathtaking scenery, climbing the roughly 27-km Hachimantai Aspite Line (八幡平アスピーテライン), a mountain road with views of Mt. Iwate and Mt. Hachimantai. Stock up on supplies at Michi-no-Eki Nishine, then preview the nature of Mt. Hachimantai at the Matsuo-Hachimantai Visitor Center before heading up the road to the sky. At the Hachimantai Summit Rest House, about 1,540 m above sea level, enjoy the famous curry and a walk around the summit, then in the afternoon walk the black rock plain of the Yakebashiri Lava Flow, a Special Natural Monument of Japan. Finish the day relaxing with alpacas and flower fields at Salad Farm. With the scenery changing at every curve, this is the perfect day for couples who love a scenic drive.
