About this spot
A shrine nestled on the slopes of Arakura Mountain overlooking the town of Fujiyoshida, dedicated to Konohanasakuya Hime no Mikoto. It has watched over this land alongside Mount Fuji since ancient times. As you climb the stone stairway approach, you will encounter a composition where Mount Fuji appears beyond the vermillion torii gate—you'll be tempted to raise your camera even before entering the shrine grounds. The sanctuary is filled with a quiet, dignified atmosphere that makes morning prayers especially refreshing. From beside the main shrine building, the 398-step Sakuyahime Staircase begins, leading up to Arakura Mountain Sengen Park where a five-story pagoda stands.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from Shimoyoshida Station on the Fuji Kyuko Line. Since stairs continue all the way to the shrine grounds, comfortable walking shoes are essential. By car, you can use the parking area on the Arakura Mountain Sengen Park side, though spaces are limited, so arriving early is recommended. Don't forget small change for offering coins and fortune-telling sticks.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Early morning air is clearest, making Mount Fuji most visible.
