Climb the 398 Sakuyahime Staircase steps and capture the five-story pagoda and Mount Fuji together in a photograph

About this spot

A scenic park renowned internationally for its ability to frame the vermillion five-story Churei Tower and Mount Fuji in a single composition. From the observation deck at the top of the 398-step Sakuyahime Staircase, a landscape unfolds that seems to symbolize Japan itself—the tower, Mount Fuji, and the townscape of Fujiyoshida woven together. In spring, cherry blossoms, and in autumn, fall colors add their own hues, making the changing seasonal expressions a reason to visit again and again. The view seems all the more moving after the breath-catching climb.

Tips

The staircase takes about 20 minutes at a leisurely pace. In addition to the stairs, a gentler sloped path is available, so you can choose based on your fitness level. The observation deck is popular and may have wait times, so early morning is your best bet. There are handrails, but be careful not to neglect your footing while absorbed in photography.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Morning light is optimal, making Mount Fuji most photogenic.
