Debut your cave exploration wearing a helmet while navigating through lava tunnels
About this spot
One of the largest and most exploration-friendly lava caves at the base of Mount Fuji, with a total length exceeding 350 meters. Borrow a helmet at the reception and experience the thrill of stooping through low-ceiling tunnels, truly feeling like a small expedition team. As its name suggests, the cave is known as a habitat for bats and is designated as a National Natural Monument. The tree-lined walking path to the cave entrance is also pleasant, and the gallery before the cave entrance offers information about bats and how caves were formed.
Tips
Helmets are provided at the reception. The cave features low ceilings in some sections requiring stooping, so wear flexible clothing and non-slip shoes. There is a winter closed period for bat protection, so confirm opening status beforehand. The ground is often wet, so holding your child's hand while walking is reassuring.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. Before noon, there are fewer tour groups and you can explore at a relaxed pace.
