About this spot

An aquarium with "Nix Castle," modeled after a Danish castle, as its symbol. The castle-based aquarium is designed so you view it tier-by-tier descending from the 4th floor, and the aqua-tunnel where fish swim overhead feels like walking in the sea. The performance of approximately 10,000 sardines creating silver swirls synchronized with lighting and music is a mesmerizing sight you can't look away from. Outdoors, penguins waddle past your feet in a parade that's popular with visitors, and dolphin and sea lion shows are also held. At the touch pool, you can directly interact with sea creatures, perfect for elementary students looking for self-study project inspiration. The location near Noboribetsu Station makes it a convenient place to stop as the day's finale.

Tips

About 5 minutes on foot from JR Noboribetsu Station, or about 15 minutes by car from Noboribetsu Onsen Town. Parking is paid. Always check the times for penguin parades and dolphin shows upon entry. Closing times vary by season, so check in advance if entering in the evening.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. Late afternoon is quieter with fewer tour groups, allowing you to leisurely enjoy the main tank.
