Speed along the Oso Matsukawa Line and take in panoramic views of both the Pacific Ocean and Matsukawa-ura from the white lighthouse
About this spot
A white lighthouse standing on a highland at Uno-o Cape, the headland dividing Matsukawa-ura and the Pacific Ocean. The prefectural road to reach here, the Oso Matsukawa Line, is a thrilling seaside drive with the Pacific Ocean on your right and Matsukawa-ura on your left as you speed along the sandy spit—arguably the highlight of this course. A walking path encircles the lighthouse, where you can enjoy a luxurious vista: to the east, the majestic Pacific Ocean, and to the west, Matsukawa-ura like a mirror. In the late afternoon, the slanting sunlight glistens on the water's surface, creating a dramatic scene perfect for closing your day's journey. Together, you and your companion will experience the grand panorama in the sea breeze—a memory that will surely become the highlight of your trip.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Hama no Eki Matsukawa-ura via the Oso Matsukawa Line, with parking spaces available near the cape. The path to the lighthouse involves an uphill walk from the parking area, so wear comfortable shoes. The cape is often windy; keep your hat secure. After sunset, the ground becomes dark, so visit while daylight remains.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Late afternoon when the setting sun illuminates Matsukawa-ura is most photogenic.
