About this spot

This waterside park is set along the shore of Matsukawaura, a lagoon designated as a Prefectural Natural Park. Matsukawaura is an inlet long cherished as a scenic spot, its scattering of large and small islands often likened to Matsushima. The park has a spacious lawn and a lakeside promenade, letting you spend a relaxed time feeling the sea breeze pass over the calm water. Because Matsukawaura is an inlet-like landform separated from the open sea by a sandbar, the waves are calm, and you can enjoy a slightly different character from an open-ocean coastline, such as the sight of waterbirds gathering on the tidal flats and the scenery of nori seaweed farms floating on the lagoon. Sitting together on a bench gazing at the water after lunch, or taking a slow walk along the promenade, makes this a soothing spot perfect for a break between drives.

Tips

A few minutes by car from Hama-no-Eki Matsukawaura, with free parking available. The lakeside has little to block the wind, so something to layer on is comfortable in early spring or autumn. A leisure sheet is handy if you want to relax on the lawn.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. The calm hours of the afternoon are easy to relax in. A clear day when the water sparkles is especially recommended
