A relaxing lakeside stroll on grassy lawns by the lagoon, a perfect post-lunch break

About this spot

A waterfront park developed along Matsukawa-ura, a lagoon designated as a prefectural natural park. Matsukawa-ura, with small and large islands dotting its waters, is compared to Matsushima and has long been cherished as a scenic spot. The park features spacious lawns and a lakeside path where you can relax in the ocean breeze crossing the calm waters. Because Matsukawa-ura is a bay-like inlet separated from the open sea by a sandy spit, its waters are gentle. You can enjoy the unique charm of this sheltered lagoon—water birds gathering at the tidal flats and seaweed cultivation floating on the water—quite different from the open coast. After lunch, sit together on a bench gazing at the water or take a leisurely walk along the path; this peaceful spot is the perfect rest stop during your drive.

Tips

A few minutes by car from Hama no Eki Matsukawa-ura, with free parking available. The lakeside has little shelter and can be windy, so bring a light layer for early spring or autumn. A picnic blanket is convenient if you plan to relax on the lawn.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. The calm afternoon hours are ideal for a leisurely visit. A sunny day with light reflecting off the water is especially recommended.
