From a Hilltop on a Peninsula Jutting into the Seto Inland Sea, Enjoy a View of Shodoshima and the Scenery of Multiple Islands
About this spot
A natural park sprawling across the tip of the Okusu Peninsula that juts prominently into the Seto Inland Sea. Beyond gentle grassy hills, the deep blue sea opens up, with Shodoshima (小豆島) appearing surprisingly close in front, and a vista of the Seto Inland Sea's layered islands visible as you scan around. Within the park are the Sanuki Winery (さぬきワイナリー) with vineyard views over the sea and the Teatro (テアトロン), an open-air concert venue with the sea as a backdrop, making it a popular scenic drive destination. The openness unique to a peninsula surrounded by sea on three sides reveals a different aspect of the ocean compared to the pine grove walk.
Tips
The park is extensive with varying terrain; it's efficient to drive around visiting different parking areas. Viewpoints often have strong ocean breezes, so a light cardigan or wrap is reassuring. If visiting the winery, those who are driving should refrain from tasting and focus on souvenir shopping.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. On clear days around midday, you can see Shodoshima's ridgeline with crisp clarity
