About this spot

Located in the northwestern part of Ishigaki Island, this is the island's leading scenic spot. Beyond the white sand beach, small green islets dot the water, and the sea's color shifts moment by moment with the tides and the sunlight, earning it praise as the sea of seven colors. Designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty and awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide, it's a certified spectacular view. Swimming isn't allowed due to strong currents, but that makes the glass-bottom boats all the more valuable, letting you observe coral reefs and colorful tropical fish up close through the glass hull. Black pearls are also cultivated within the bay, and the view looking down from the hilltop is truly a postcard image of Ishigaki Island.

Tips

Whether the glass-bottom boats operate depends on the day's sea conditions, and how things look also changes with the tide. The sea's color tends to appear more vivid when the sun is higher, so photographers should aim for a clear morning. It's a short walk up a slope to the viewpoint, so wear comfortable shoes. The sun is strong, so don't forget a hat and sunscreen.
