The Kanmon Strait Fireworks Festival held from 7:35 PM to 8:50 PM on August 13, 2026 (Thursday) features approximately 18,000 fireworks launching simultaneously from both shores of Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture and Kita-Kyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture as its main highlight. Fireworks burst competitively from both shores separated by the narrow approximately 700-meter-wide Kanmon Strait, and the sheer volume of light covering the sky and the continuous launch sounds reverberating off the mountains on both sides of the strait create an intensity that can only be experienced here in Japan. The moment when the reflected fireworks on the wide water surface of the strait overlap with the fireworks from the opposite Kita-Kyushu shore is particularly breathtaking. The viewing areas on the Shimonoseki side—Misonokicho Pier, Arukaporto, Camon Wharf, and Karato Market—are all premium seats facing the strait, where you can enjoy 1 hour 15 minutes of fireworks alongside the scent of the sea and the sound of waves.

After the show ends, buses at Shimonoseki Station and the Karato area become heavily congested, so it's strategic to wait a bit after the finale before moving on.
