About 3,500 shells launched from upstream on the Mogami River (最上川) spread across the full width of Yamagata's great river, coloring the night sky together with the flickering light reflected on the water's surface. Since the surrounding buildings at the riverside venue are low, offering a wide, unobstructed view, the biggest appeal is being able to enjoy the large fireworks head-on with nothing blocking them. Be sure to check Nagai City and the Nagai Chamber of Commerce and Industry's official announcements in advance for whether the event will go ahead in case of bad weather. Roads around the venue and the area toward Nagai Station get crowded after the event ends, so it's recommended to enjoy the afterglow at the riverbed for a while after the finale before moving. Check the return train times on the Flower Nagai Line in advance. It's dark underfoot, so a small light is reassuring to have.
