About this spot

This green park, developed on the banks of the Mogami River (最上川), is the main viewing area for the Nagai Water Festival Mogami River Fireworks Display. Spread out a picnic sheet along the broad grassy embankment and wait for the show while gazing at the flow of the Mogami River right in front of you. As the sun sets, the color of the river's surface changes moment by moment, and the silhouette of the mountains on the opposite bank emerges, making the twilight hour another pleasure before the fireworks. Food stalls and vendors also line up around the venue, letting you feel the festival's lively atmosphere firsthand. Since a cool breeze blows along the river at night, it's reassuring to keep something to wear over your shoulders on hand.

Tips

On the day of the fireworks display, crowds start growing from around 18:00, so secure your spot by 18:45 at the latest. Restrooms get crowded before the show starts, so use them early. Since congestion is expected on the way back, it's easier to move after enjoying the afterglow for a bit once the show ends.
