The Asahigaoka area of Lake Yamanaka (山中湖) is known as a starting point for cycling, with a cycling road maintained along the lakeshore. The course that circles the lake is about 14km, and since the flat road continues the whole way, it's easy to ride even with children. As you ride, a breathtaking view unfolds with Mt. Fuji ahead and the lake's surface at your feet, letting you enjoy an exhilarating feeling in the clear summer air. There are several rental bike shops on the lakeshore, where you can rent children's bikes and electric-assist bikes, so you can choose your course to match your stamina. Tips

There are several rental bike shops around the Asahigaoka Bus Terminal. Rather than circling the whole lake, riding west along the north shore to the Yamanaka district fireworks venue and back is also plenty enjoyable. Summer sunlight is strong, so a hat and sunscreen are essential. After returning your bike, move on to the next spot on foot or by bus.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. From morning to just after midday is the ideal time, when the sunlight and the blue of the lake's surface are both at their best
