The Asahigaoka area of Yamanaka Lake is known as a starting point for cycling, with a well-maintained cycling road along the lake shore. The course that circles the lake is approximately 14 km, and features flat terrain that makes it easy to ride even for families with children. As you cycle, Mount Fuji spreads out before you and the lake surface appears at your feet in a breathtaking landscape, allowing you to experience exhilaration in the clean summer air. There are several bike rental shops along the shore, offering children's bikes and electric-assist models, so you can choose a course suited to your fitness level. 山中湖の開湖を記念して毎年8月1日に開催される「報湖祭」は、山中湖の夏を代表する伝統行事です。湖上から打ち上げられる花火は、富士山を正面に望む湖畔から見ると、大輪が富士の稜線と重なるように夜空に開く唯一無二の光景を楽しめます。静かな湖面に映る逆さ花火の美しさも、湖上花火ならではの見どころです。標高約980mの山あいで鳴り響く打ち上げ音は体に響く迫力があり、周囲の山々に反響するこもった音が独特の臨場感を生み出します。涼しい夜風の中で、富士山と湖と花火が一体となる夏の夜のひとときをご家族でお楽しみください。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は山中湖村の公式発表で必ず確認してください。終了後は会場周辺の道路と駐車場の出口が大変混雑します。フィナーレの余韻を湖畔でゆっくり楽しんでから、時間差で帰路につくのがおすすめです。富士急行バスや自家用車の帰り時刻は事前に調べておきましょう。足元は暗いため、帰路は必ずライトを使って安全に。
Tips
There are multiple bike rental shops around the Asahigaoka Bus Terminal. You can also enjoy the ride by taking a route heading west along the northern shore of the lake toward the Yamanaka district, where the fireworks venue is located, and then turning back without completing the full circle. Strong summer sun makes hats and sunscreen essential. After returning your bicycle, proceed to the next spot on foot or by bus.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. Late morning to early afternoon is the ideal time when both the sunlight and the blue of the lake water are at their best.
