About this spot

Held every year on August 1 to commemorate the founding of Lake Yamanaka (山中湖), the “Lake Tribute Festival” is a traditional event representing summer at Lake Yamanaka. Fireworks launched from the lake create a one-of-a-kind sight when viewed from a lakeshore facing Mt. Fuji head-on, with the great blossoms opening in the night sky as if overlapping the ridgeline of Mt. Fuji. The beauty of the upside-down fireworks reflected on the calm lake surface is also a highlight unique to fireworks launched over water. The launch sound, echoing through the mountains at an elevation of about 980m, has a power that resonates through your body, and the muffled reverberation off the surrounding mountains creates a uniquely immersive atmosphere. Enjoy this summer night with your family, amid the cool night breeze, as Mt. Fuji, the lake, and the fireworks become one.

Tips

Be sure to check Yamanakako Village's official announcements for whether the event will proceed in case of bad weather. Afterward, roads around the venue and the parking lot exits become very congested. We recommend enjoying the afterglow of the finale by the lakeshore for a while before heading home with a time lag. Look up return times for the Fujikyu bus or your own car in advance. Since it's dark underfoot, be sure to use a light for safety on your way home.
