About this spot

A guesthouse that doubles as an eatery, set just off the national highway along the Lake Yamanaka (山中湖) shore. It serves local dishes rooted in the Lake Yamanaka area as set meals or boxed lunches, which you can also take out to the lakeshore. Tonight, this lakeshore is the main venue for the Lake Tribute Festival. Have your meal in the evening and spread your leisure sheet in a spot good for viewing. As the sun sets, the silhouette of Mt. Fuji rises beyond the lake, and the sky turns a deep indigo. The lakeshore grows cold from evening on, so it's reassuring to have a light jacket ready.

Tips

On the day of the fireworks display, the roads into the Yamanaka district get very congested. If driving, secure parking around the venue early, or consider using the shuttle bus. Restrooms around the venue form lines before the show starts, so we strongly recommend going early. It becomes hard to see your footing on the lakeshore once it gets dark, so keep a light on hand.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. A time of day when the transition from sunset to starry sky, and Mt. Fuji's shadow reflected on the lake's surface, are especially beautiful
