The Kanazawa Matsuri Fireworks Festival is a fireworks display that has long been beloved locally as a summer tradition in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama. From the beach at Umi no Koen (海の公園), which opens toward Tokyo Bay, you look straight up at about 3,500 fireworks. With nothing to block the view of the fireworks launched over the water, the large bursts of light spreading across the night sky and then faintly reflecting on the sea surface make for a beautiful sight unique to the seaside. Hearing the launch sounds amid the scent of the tide and the sound of the waves has a different kind of impact than a venue on land. At the end of your one-day trip, take your time enjoying the moment of looking up at the night sky together as a family.

Launches take place from 7:00pm to 8:00pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The event goes ahead in light rain but is canceled in severe weather, so check the latest information from Yokohama City or the event organizer on the day. Stations on the Kanazawa Seaside Line get very crowded afterward, so it's best to linger on the beach and enjoy the afterglow for a while after the show ends before moving with a staggered crowd. The beach is dark on the way back, so watch your step.

Time your visit to the 7:00pm launch start. Arriving at your viewing spot on the beach 30 minutes before the start is reassuring.
