This memorial museum stands in Shido, the birthplace of Hiraga Gennai, the Edo-period polymath. Through easy-to-understand exhibits, including a replica of his 'erekiter' (electrostatic generator), it introduces the achievements of Gennai, who wore many hats as a naturalist, inventor, and playwright. Learning the background of how the town of Shido produced such a versatile figure makes exploring the town afterward all the more interesting.

Tips

About a 5-minute walk from JR Shido Station. The museum is compact and easy to visit even in a short time. During summer vacation, many parents and children visit as part of school research projects.
