Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷神社)

A shrine that sits partway up a sloping road in Fushimi, Chuo Ward, at the foot of Mount Moiwa. A number of vermilion torii gates stand in a row along the approach, and simply walking beneath them makes for a scene that excites children. The precincts are wrapped in trees, and the cool morning air is welcome for a summer visit. Because it stands partway up the slope leading to Asahiyama Memorial Park (旭山記念公園) and Mount Moiwa, it fits neatly into this day of travel. Put your hands together and ask for a safe day, then head up the mountain.

旭山記念公園水の広場は、札幌市中央区の旭山記念公園にある無料の水遊び場です。例年4月25日(土)から10月31日(土)まで、10:00〜20:00に楽しめます(札幌市の案内は4月下旬〜10月末頃)。水が段々に流れ落ちるカスケードが目を引き、その下の浅い水辺で子どもが自由に遊べる造りになっています。展望広場が隣にあるので、大人はベンチから札幌の街並みを眺めながら見守れるのがこの公園らしい過ごし方です。トイレとレストハウスがそろっているため、着替えも食事も園内で完結します。春から秋までと開設期間が長く、夏休み以外の週末にも計画できるのは他の水遊び場にはない強みです。

Tips

カスケードの石は濡れて滑りやすいので、水遊び用サンダルを履かせてください。高台にあるため夕方は風が冷たくなります。体を拭いたら早めに乾いた服へ着替えましょう。20時まで開いているので、日の長い季節は夕暮れの街あかりを眺めてから帰る計画も立てられます。駐車場は夕方の時間帯に混み合うことがあります。

Tips

It sits partway up a slope, and there are steps along the approach. A baby carrier moves more easily here than a stroller. It is in a residential area, so keep quiet in the surrounding streets. There are not many parking spaces, so public transport or sharing a car is the safer choice. Have drinks ready in advance.
