Mount Moiwa Ropeway

About this spot

A facility that takes you up Mount Moiwa, which rises just south of central Sapporo, by a ropeway connecting to a mini cable car. As the gondola gains height the city grows smaller, and by the time you reach the summit observatory you can see everything from the grid-patterned city streets to Ishikari Bay. In summer the mountaintop is cooler, and the green of the trees and the pleasant breeze are part of the appeal. The ride itself is an attraction for children, and it helps that the walking distance is short. Asahiyama Memorial Park (旭山記念公園) is about ten minutes away by car.

旭山記念公園水の広場は、札幌市中央区の旭山記念公園にある無料の水遊び場です。例年4月25日(土)から10月31日(土)まで、10:00〜20:00に楽しめます(札幌市の案内は4月下旬〜10月末頃)。水が段々に流れ落ちるカスケードが目を引き、その下の浅い水辺で子どもが自由に遊べる造りになっています。展望広場が隣にあるので、大人はベンチから札幌の街並みを眺めながら見守れるのがこの公園らしい過ごし方です。トイレとレストハウスがそろっているため、着替えも食事も園内で完結します。春から秋までと開設期間が長く、夏休み以外の週末にも計画できるのは他の水遊び場にはない強みです。

Tips

カスケードの石は濡れて滑りやすいので、水遊び用サンダルを履かせてください。高台にあるため夕方は風が冷たくなります。体を拭いたら早めに乾いた服へ着替えましょう。20時まで開いているので、日の長い季節は夕暮れの街あかりを眺めてから帰る計画も立てられます。駐車場は夕方の時間帯に混み合うことがあります。

Tips

Operating hours and fares change with the season and the weather, so check the official website. Service may be suspended in strong winds or thunderstorms. The summit is cooler than the city below, so a light jacket gives peace of mind. The parking lot at the base station gets crowded at certain hours, so arriving early is more comfortable.
